My Afternoon's a Killer

The afternoon has become one my favorite times of the day.  Not only is this when J takes a sizable nap but I can usually find a pretty good lifetime movie on TV.  I'm not even ashamed of this routine. This is my logic,  I've run my errands, done my chores and fed my babe;  I deserve a melodrama.

I learn some pretty valuable lessons in the afternoon.  Like, it's best to face a killer head on, look him or her in the eye and let them know you're not going down without a fight.  It's also best to never hire a live-in nanny.  Before you know it she will be wearing your clothes and carrying your baby like it's hers.

Those of you who know me well, know that I have a slight obsession with this network and I'm not going to go on and on about it.  Mostly because I'm busy watching Tiffany Amber Thiessen escape her killer husband in the movie "The Stranger Beside Me".  So far the lessons from today have been that what you don't know may kill you (wise words) and that Tiffany looks pretty good in an over sized denim jacket.

If it sounds like I'm wasting my life, don't worry, I don't think this trend will last long.  But if it does, I'm going to need some bon bons.

Lately

Here are some of the latest pics of J that I'm lovin.

teething has begun...poor giraffe.

One of J's favorite places is still his changing table.  He could lay there for hours.

I love this picture.  Bella is clearly about to pounce the little man's feet and by his facial expression it seems that he knows it.

A Walk in the Park

So today was pretty much the perfect Saturday.  We spent the afternoon at Webb park, having a picnic and enjoying some of the local wildlife.  Ducks, turtles and a couple where I'm pretty sure the girl was topless.  Love public parks, not so much public nudity.  Oh well, I don't think J noticed.  Scott on the other hand...
The folding chairs in the background are a nice touch.

His new thing:drooling.

Only J can manage a scowl at the park.

A couple of mother ducks.

Bellie really wanted to eat this duck.

We found this baby turtle.  We named him Filbert.

Make way for ducklings!

I Miss Zoo Already

Today J and I visited the education department at the Zoo.  It was so wonderful to see everyone and to introduce them to the little guy that has been keeping me busy at home.  I joke that I am J's personal Zoo keeper...some days it feels like that.  And although making the decision to stay home with J instead of returning to work has been a difficult one, I know that it is not a decision I will regret.

With that said, there is no doubt I am going to miss the Zoo everyday.  Not only did I have a job working with animals, which is a dream, but I was blessed to work with the most wonderful people.  It is a time of my life that I will cherish forever and for which I will be forever grateful.

I can't wait for the day when I can teach J about the amazing animals that I had the privilege to work with so that he too will develop a love and appreciation for them.  And just think, one day I'll be dropping my little man off at Zoo camp!

Love them kisses!

Spending some quality time with Yapper.  Loved her!

You Fill Up My Senses

I have always been a big John Denver fan.  There is something about his music that makes me feel so happy and a little bit country, which I like.  I haven’t listened to him in a while but he seems to make his way into my life every evening as I rock my sweet baby J to sleep.

Since I was the baby of my family, I never had to sing anyone to sleep at night.  I remember a couple of songs my mom used to sing to me but unfortunately I only remember the first few phrases and then I find myself making up the words (which makes me feel embarrassed, even though I know J has no idea what I’m saying).   So, as I rock J to sleep, I sing songs that I know.  I sing “Ani’s Song” by John Denver.

It begins with the recognizable verse, “You fill up my senses….” What I’ve found is that James loves this song.  It immediately calms him down and makes his eyes heavy and finally shut with sleep.  As I sing the verses over and over again, I watch my baby close his eyes; I smell the top of his sweet head and give him kisses.  I listen to his breath go in and out and I feel his little frame against my own and I sing “You fill up my senses”.  Which he does, he fills every single one.

Blessed

March 6, 2011 J's Baby Blessing
J wore the same blessing outfit that Scott wore...28 years ago.
Our chubby boy barely fit into this little number.
Getting ready for his big day.

Family photo.  This is the church where I was blessed....32 years ago.  I know, I'm older than Scott!
The man of the hour.
Baby feet!
Ahhhhh.

At the end of the party, our wild man was naked and passed out.

6 in 100

It's amazing how much you worry once you have a baby.  The most minor of ailments and I am online diagnosing him with something life threatening.  It's not all that surprising to some people, given that I have a touch of the hypochondriac in me.  Which I refute or confute (word of the day) completely because I most definitely was sick all those times.  And just because you don't have a fever doesn't mean you're not sick.  Right?

Anyway, last night during one of the times J got up to eat, I noticed that he had gunk in his eyelid.   So I woke Scott up from a pretend deep sleep for him to examine J's eye.  He acted like it was no big deal and went back to bed.  Meanwhile each time J got up for a feeding his eye got pastier and pastier.  Of course I am panicking and counting down the hours until I can call the nurse and take him to the doctor so he doesn't lose his vision or worse, his entire eye.

However, I think we're in the clear.  I think it may just be a clogged tear duct and with a little warm wash cloth it may just go away.  The all knowing Internet says that 6 in 100 babies suffer from this.  Funny, I always thought J was one in a million.  Turns out he is 6 in 100.
